Prayer: A Source of Peace and Power

2 min read

It's not just a conversation but a source of sustaining power.

Prayer is literally a source of power that can sustain you like no other source. Why? Because, when you pray from a right standing position before God, He fills you with peace beyond comprehension. How? Simple, I don’t know. That’s the thing about peace beyond comprehension, you can’t understand it fully — it surpasses understanding.

“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

You might say “oh well I don’t know if I believe all that”, and I understand that it requires a deliberate decision to rely on God, this person who is outside of you that you can’t look straight in the eye or hear audibly. But that doesn’t mean He’s any less real than you are, just because you can’t see Him.

You can only experience the peace of God after being saved by Him so that you are in right standing with Him.

It’s after you’re in right standing with Him that He grants you peace. You have to grant Him access over your heart, He gave you free will but He won’t violate your free will. He might put things in front of you to get your attention, but He will not violate your free will.

His offer to you is a free offer that you must choose willingly. Nobody will place a gun to your head in order to make you take this offer. God doesn’t operate like that.

Once you are in right standing with Him then He can give you peace that surpasses understanding. But you have to trust Him first in order to do that, you have to trust Him to forgive you of your sins and give you a new life through trusting Jesus Christ as your beneficiary, the one who acted on your behalf.
